Transcript:
"I’m super excited to announce the winners of Phase 1 of our L-Prize, our Lighting Prize.
A decade ago DOE awarded our very first L-Prize to a technology you might have heard about a little bit – an LED replacement for the everyday lightbulb.
We launched the latest round of the competition in May and the purpose was to raise the bar for lighting efficiency, quality, connectivity, and environmental footprint. And this time we are really targeting transformational innovations to light commercial buildings.
After an expert reviewer panel of about 8000 thought leaders (laugh) after they evaluated submissions we chose 4 winning teams…
So drum roll….without further ado the winners ... (the first is) Project Tango by QuarkStar of Las Vegas Nevada (clap clap, thumbs up) Bravo!"

Concord Equinox - The new vision of Downlight
Expand for Description
Meet Concord Equinox, our latest innovation. Concord Equinox is an elegant and innovative luminaire designed using the latest optical technology. It is a high quality and efficient lighting solution for office, hospitality, and retail environments. Using QuarkStar’s award-winning system of light refraction, Equinox provides functional downlighting with simultaneous upper lighting. This creates a halo backlight which improves the ambience and avoids the dark, cave-like effect. Furthermore, it lowers the contrast which would otherwise result in discomfort glare. The halo effect can be regulated with a unique adjustable optic system which helps to create the desirable lighting effect. This unique range redefines the current genre of LED downlights, offering an ultra-modern and stylish look to any space. Visit Sylvania’s website to learn more about Equinox. |

HOUSTON - QuarkStar, a developer of award-winning LED lighting technologies, announces that its Q-Wall asymmetric linear fixtures were installed in the Nancy and Rich Kinder Building at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Designed by architect Steven Holl, the Kinder building is the centerpiece of an 8-year $450 million expansion and redevelopment project and is currently the largest museum expansion in North America. After an amazing effort to complete it during the covid-chaos of 2020, it is now officially open to the public. Specified by L’Observatoire International and handpicked by the MFAH’s Chief Operating Officer, Willard Holmes, QuarkStar’s award-winning Edge-X technology is installed as the primary exhibit illumination in nearly all galleries using artificial lighting as their primary illumination source. |

Meet the innovators behind ground-breaking optics We meet the men behind the Build Back Better PLATINUM Award-winning Q-Wall technology. Q-Wall from Quarkstar is used in the new Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Arts in Houston, Texas, to illuminate five-metre high walls from a tiny aperture, with ultra-high uniformity, efficiency and light mixing. We learn from Quarkstar CTO Eric Bretschneider, Ph.D. and Q-Wall co-inventor Bob Gardner how it the unique technology works and look at some applications. |
